This test is useful in cases of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with a suspected AML/ETO translocation. The translocation of the AML1 gene (RUNX1) on chromosome 21 with the ETO gene (RUNX1T1) gene that encodes the CBFA2T1 protein on chromosome 8 forms a fusion protein. The t(8;21) abnormality predisposed to heterogeneous bone marrow malignancy, the Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The test helps in detection of this translocation leading to AML-M2.
